I would not recommend this trip if your main goal is to go snorkeling. The bus picks you up near or at your hotel, and the ride is long but manageable althought the views dont keep you entertained for long. Key west is a great town and just exploring it for a few hours is probably fun and worth it. We went to the snorkeling and the first thing I noticed was they REQUIRE that you KNOW how to swim. This wasnt an issue for us but I remember reading on the listing that swiming wasn’t required so just something to note. You dont get a life jacket, just an inflatable emergency vest and a pool noodle. But the worst part was that the water was filled with giant jelly fish. They mention jellyfish (its the ocean) and just advice you to swim around them. But they undersold how many there would be. There was no way to avoid them, there was a jellyfish no matter where you turned. The water was rough and merky so you couldnt really see much (except for the jelly fish) and you couldnt relax and enjoy yourself to maybe catch something on the ground because you had to be alert for jelly fish. I did look down once and saw a dark looking underwater bush and nothing else, just sand. So I just went back to focusing on dodging jelly fish. We ended up getting out after 10 minutes, and we were covered in stings. It wasnt super painful but felt like a burn, went away after about 10-15 minutes but regardless not an enjoyable experience. We ended up sitting on the top deck of the boat and I noticed that after 20 minutes of the snorkel part starting about 90% of the people were back on the back, many were stung which was not surprising considering there was no way not to. The workers wete friendly but just brushed it off as “it happens” or just “swim around them” but they were either ignoring the reality or not aware. There was genuinely no way to avoid multiple giant jellyfish. They should re-name this excursion snorkeling with jellyfish because I am sure that will be enticing to some and thats the only way this can be an accurate excursion.
Also I spoke to a friend after who went a few days prior to same place and had the same experience, so its likely not just a one-off.
We ate lunch and got back on the bus, the bus back very tired from the day was a bit of a pain. I think Key West is great but maybe a different style of trip would be better suited.
