Glacier Quest Cruise - Self-Drive from Anchorage, AK

Przegląd
Drive the Seward Highway along the scenic Turnagain Arm to Whittier. The Glacier Quest Cruise takes you from the quaint seaside town of Whittier to glacier-filled Blackstone Bay, a dramatic deep-water fjord where two tidewater glaciers and several alpine glaciers await. Keep an eye out for sea otters, Steller sea lions, bears, mountain goats, whales, and more!

You will see several glaciers, including Tebenkof Glacier, named for Mikhail Demitrievich Tebenkof, an outstanding surveyor whose maps were the first charts of Alaska’s waters published in 1852. Northland Glacier rests majestically, clinging to the edge of the towering mountain. Blackstone and Beloit are tidewater glaciers that have carved a steep pathway to reach Prince William Sound’s saltwater. Cruise up close to these massive glaciers to watch for telltale signs of movement signaled by the distinct “pop” of glacier ice calving.

Three of us took this perfect way to spend our first day in Alaska prior to our week-long Kenai fishing trip. We chose this 4 hour nature & glacier viewing trip and drove down to Whittier from Anchorage. On our drive, we enjoyed seeing Beluga Whales feeding in the famed Turnagin Arm, lots of gorgeous close-by mountains, a walk-to stream holding spawning Sockeye and Chum Salmon, and an exciting drive through the long tunnel to Whittier and the boat. I booked the trip early with assigned comfortable tables and seats that including a tasty served Salmon Chowder for lunch. At the Phillips Office, we found that we were on a new, larger boat named the Bravest (as this boat originally came from New York City and was instrumental in moving people from near the 9-11 Crisis Area over to New Jersey. The trip was first class with many Glacier views and several stops up close with Calving Views. Additionally, the boat slowed/stopped to view lots of wildlife, especially nesting Kittyhawks, large Sea Lions and everyone's favorite, feeding Sea Otters. Maybe the best came when we got to watch a Mother Otter feeding her new Baby. The 4-hour cruise was perfect for us and provided lots of chatter on our return to Anchorage.

Thank you for letting us be the kick-off to your Alaska Adventure! We hope you had an amazing time fishing on the Kenai. The Bravest holds a special place in our hearts and we are proud to have it be a member of our fleet. Thank you for your review and, again, letting us be a part of your Alaska adventure.

Even on a rainy, cloudy day the tour was amazing! Saw eagles, otters, seals. The views of the glaciers were spectacular! Had a wonderful day!

Cruise started right on time. Narrative and crew on board were excellent. Good weather helped in viewing all glaciers. Amazing scenery. Saw otters and sea lions. Lunch was good but the fresh baked chocolate chips cookies knocked it out of the park.
