Having visited the Grand Canyon before, my wife and I wanted a different experience this time.
First up, the activity parts of the tour were amazing. Our helicopter pilot, Thomas, gave us an extremely smooth and informative flight, it was a privilege to see the Canyon like that.
Our boat pilot, Matt, was equally as professional and a great host. He helped keep us cool in the record temperatures, pointing out loads of really interesting things along the way. Lunch supplied on the raft was fine, a freshly made packed lunch with fresh fruit, which we appreciated.
The room for improvement is in the amount of time sat about doing nothing. We didn’t mind the early start, but there was a 35 minute wait before our flight, then another 35-40 wait after to be picked up for the rafting. During that time, the ‘breakfast’ we were told would be available was cheap and nasty pastry’s from a packet and granola bars.
We made the short transfer to a cabin near Lake Mead to be checked in for the boat, where we then sat and waited for another 40 minutes with no actual information as to why or what time we’d head off.
After the raft ride we were picked up and taken back to the airport where we had to wait again for our transfer back to the hotel. We arrived back just in tike for rush hour, and our driver was somewhat erratic, which didn’t make for the smoothest of rides.
Overall a great day out and I’d recommend it to others, all the crew were lovely to talk to, etc. But if that waiting around can be addressed, it would be much better.
