While the tour was good, and our guide was lovely, it wasn’t what we had expected at all. Being a Hummer, we just assumed it would go INTO the canyon. It doesn’t, which begs the question, ‘why have the Hummer?’ We did go to 3 lookouts, but we could have very easily done those on our own for free. Also, the smell of the diesel fuel was overwhelming at times. For those reasons, it’s hard for me to recommend it.

Thanks for the review, we appreciate the feedback. We are sorry that the tour was not what you expected.
There are no tours that go 'into the canyon', as there are no roads, and no off road travel permitted in the canyon. The only way go into the canyon (below the rim) is to hike, or do an overnight mule trip.
All of the lookouts in the Grand Canyon South Rim that are available for tours are also available to the general public. You can drive your own vehicle and pay just the $35 vehicle fee, which is good for 7 days. Some of the benefits of a tour are that you don't have to decide which viewpoints to visit, you don't have to find parking, and the guide provides a lot of history and information. Many guests choose to do the tour, and then go back into the park on their own and visit other viewpoints that their guide recommends.
Sorry about the fumes, that has been addressed and we apologize.
As for 'why have the hummer?' it's because they look nice, and provide a comfortable touring experience.
Again, we are sorry that you didn't enjoy the tour.
