We just returned from the afternoon trip today. My 21 year old son and I had a great experience. Don't let the negative reviews fool you. If you look the bad reviews are 2016 and older. Obviously something has changed tremendously because all of the recent reviews are average to excellent.
I have been on likely a hundred head boats in my 50 years of deep sea fishing, every year, many times and this was by far the best I've ever been on. Sure, some boats will go drop to the bottom and you pull up a few little fish, but this type trip on this boat is different. You have to know what you are signing up for. This boat drift fished. This is not the same thing as putting a heavy sinker on and bottom fishing. Yes, you will get tangled with others at times. Yes, it will be crowded sometimes and sometimes not. However, the size of the fish you catch drift fishing are much larger on average than strictly bottom fishing. It all depends on what you are looking for and what the boat is fishing for. The captain tries to match the trip to the fish that are available so you won't be productive on your trip. This changes day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, etc.
I recommend you call them and ask them what they are fishing for and how. They are very polite and will explain things to you. Then, you can decide for yourself if that's what you want to do. Do you want to go big or go home sometimes too? And, if you want a smaller fish experience, they offer that too. It's all in the communications and without those how can you have legitimate, realistic expectations or rate them negatively when you don't even know what you signed up for?
All I can tell you is what I know. The fishing, Captain, and Crew were excellent. This is the best head boat I have ever been on by a long shot. Yes, I've been on many charters that are private and the fishing was different and more personalized, but this is a headboat not a private charter and only $55 as opposed to $150+ per person if you have 5 to 6 others to share the cost. Otherwise, you pay the entire $700+ bill.
For a head boat, I don't know how you could find any better. I have not and I've been fishing in every area of Florida from the Panhandle down to the Keys and backup to West Palm. I've taken head boats when available in probably 20 areas of Florida and this on was the best. I've also fished North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia doing the same thing and the result remains the same, this was the best head boat I've been on and I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe your experience won't be as good as ours but ours was superb and we will return every time we return to Miami four or five times a year now that I know this is available. I apologize for the typos my voice recognition isn't always the best but I think you can I get the point, the Reward Fleet and the Captain I was with are As Good As It Gets for Head Boats.Tight lines.
