this was a fun trip and a really cool experience. but if you want to go, first things first, bring someone you know you will not get mad at, no matter what they do. like, couples should not bring their significant others because this trip will make you break up. my sister and i hadn’t fought in nearly a month (verbal, not physical) and we were so sure we were going to bond over kayaking together. as you can see from the title, we didn’t. i’ve canoed plenty of times and i’ve used a paddle lots, and i thought i could lead and help my sister but noooooo kayaking is so different from operating a canoe. at first, when we left, we were paddling well but then i realized she wasn’t paddling efficiently which made us lag to the back of the group. i was kind of embarrassed but i didn’t say anything. i sat in the back and steered but my sister was getting frustrated at my steering and said that she was going to steer the kayak on the way back. this made me furious because she was half ass paddling and i was pulling us the entire time. mind you, this wasn’t even half of the kayaking trip yet. when we arrived on the beach, i got away from her as soon as possible so to not fight with even more. we ate lunch which was a pretty good roast beef sandwich ( i only wish is that it were hot) and snorkelled. the guides just let us do whatever we wanted which was cool but they were hanging out on their own which was not cool because human social interaction is fun (other than my sister because we were mad at each other). anyway, the trip ended and we were still mad at each other so moral is: do not bring a person you love on this trip. by the end you will detest them.

Aloha Megan, Your review of our Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel brought a chuckle. For years we have joked, "families that paddle together...pray together" or that with paddling spouses/friends/lovers, a paddle may make or break a relationship. This is a fairly easy trip, but the ocean part got a bit strenuous. Our guide, Mike, was wonderful; he knew a great snorkel spot. I think it was the best place we snorkeled all week. He was great with our kids; he even convinced our 11-year-old to get in he water, and the had a great time.

Aloha Leslie, On our Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel tour, the ocean component depending on the swell and winds can sometime for a short time, test your mettle. Glad you survived. We believe the Blue Lagoon to be a good fit for the more active family. Mike brings many hours of ocean experience from surfing to guiding sea kayaking tours for us along Na Pali and glad you were able to capitalize on it and even....get your 11 year old in the water; maybe the water is his future. Our tour guide was Jay and his goal was to make sure we all had fun while being safe and he did just that.Jay was super informative about the island.As we were kayaking he would give us information about the area while making sure we were all safe. When we arrived at Hideaway Beach he provided us with sandwiches, chips, pineapple and drinks.Jay even took us on a guided snorkeling tour so that we can get a glimpse of some sea turtles. We had so much fun with him! On our way back he even took us to go see some wild boar which was amazing considering there's so many on the island and we didn't see any until he showed us. Thank you so much for an absolutely great time! You made our trip to Kauai 110% times better. So worth the $$.

Aloha Lily, I think the "boar" stop is becoming almost the highlight on our Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel. I have hung around with Jay when he interacting with clients and have always been struck by his varied knowledge of a myriad of things not only Kaua'i. Jay is fun and informative while being a good water person where is safety is #1. Keep looking for turtles and sharing your experiences. A hui hou and thanks for making it possible for us all to enjoy and share paradise.
