Frieda’s Hasidic tour was fascinating. Because of her special personal story, being a past member of the Hasidic community , her insight into this insular, ultra orthodox religious community cannot be gained on your own or from any other tour company. The explanation of the history of the movement from the Ukraine in the 1700s to Williamsburg was very interesting. We learned about the various nuances of their unique clothing , women’s wigs, men’s beards and side locks , boys haircuts at 3 years old etc. the arranged marriages, the mothers and fathers family dynamic, the economy, children’s education. No tv, no computers ,no smart phones,no movies. You can only have this intimate knowledge being one of the people raised in this community which Frieda was. We appreciated her dedication to her subject and she is without a doubt a walking encyclopedia on the subject. She invited questions and answered all with great patience. The tour is an easy stroll . The stop at Kaffs bakery was delicious and the variety of food tastings at Gottlieb’s deli brought back many memories of my mother’s kosher kitchen in the Bronx. All in all, it was a very memorable tour which my wife and I and adult grandchildren are still talking about. We learned a lot and are now interested in learning more. Thank you Frieda.
