I signed up for this tour because the Brandeis chapter in my area offered it as a day trip. I figured it would fill up my day and I would enjoy with my friends. I was quite delighted to discover that I had a great time while becoming enlightened. 13 of the 14 women who attended the tour were Jewish, ranging from reform through conservative. The Hasidic culture was something we kind of knew about but not really enough. Frieda Vizel was our tour guide. She amazed us with her knowledge since she had left the Hasidic community 10 years ago. She was very fair, not passing judgement on anyone. Frieda answered my many questions openly and honestly. The neighborhood was gentrified and we went to a bakery and deli, of course Glatt kosher, and the food we had was delicious. I highly recommend taking this tour with Frieda. It was educational and eye opening. It is always good to see how other people live.

Our guide, Frieda, was fantastic. We learned about the hasidic historical background, the daily life in a hasidic family, the delicious food and its traditions. Frieda spoke with lots of love about the community and gave me a much better understanding for what drives a Hasidic. Thank you, Frieda!

We have been to New York over 10 times and have each time booked one or the other tour. This tour has been the best by far.

The tour gives a very good and informative introduction into the everyday life of Hasidic Jews. The rules of their faith and coexistence may seem strange to an outsider. However, after the tour we had an understanding how the group is cohesive and why leaving the community is very difficult for individuals.

The special highlight of the tour is the guide Frieda. She grew up there herself and left the religious community only a few years ago, so she uniquely combines information about the religious community with her own, very personal experiences.

The tour takes a total of 3 hours, the track is moderate. Part of the tour is a short stop at a local bakery and at the end a meal together with the opportunity to ask questions again.

All participants received a radio receiver with headphones in order to understand the explanations of the guide despite ambient noise.
