As a newbie to Charleston (and a northerner), who knew there was so much history here?! Palmer of Oyster Point Walking Tours did a great job of sharing relevant info (both facts and fiction) about this charming city-town (it has the feel of both.) Although the 2 hours went fast, she whet our appetite to learn more.
She was extremely attentive and courteous to all the guests and knows how to project and direct her voice so that all feel included. I actually caught a few guests from other tours leaning her way to catch a few of her words, although all the tour guides respected each others’ spaces, which was a kind thing to see.
The only downsides: (not with this company, but as heads up to travelers) were that (1) there is so much more to see! A single walking tour can only just begin to cover it, and (2) periods of standing and listening can make one weary, so travelers with medical issues will probably want a seated tour.
For me, the walking and standing were well worth it - while our group had many interesting questions, she had even more answers, and if a guest had additional relevant info to offer (such as did an architect guest on our tour), she was grateful to acknowledge it. Plus she made it fun by inserting little questions here and there to engage the group.
I definitely recommend this tour. Palmer brings history to life with her energy, knowledge, and personality. A must-do!
