The Bitterroot National Forest is an incredibly beautiful and rugged place with amazing mountains and deep glacial canyons. The trails are not always well maintained, and often times seasonal creeks will deter folks who aren't used to water crossings. You'll be glad you brought a guide along!

The hike and packraft float is an experience unique to Bitterroot Backpacking. You will not find any other guide or company providing this service! (And if you do, they probably found the idea here!)

Luke was an awesome guide! Came well prepared with gear and food for all. He was also quick to take impressive photos so we have memories for years to come. Would definitely recommend Luke as a guide for hiking, paddling, backpacking.. you name it! Anything to do with the outdoors Luke is your guy-de! He’ll teach you somethings you didn’t know and you’ll have a lot of fun doing it.

I was very glad I booked this trip with Luke at Bitterroot Backpacking! We started the day going over our planned route, a moderately difficult hike out to a beautiful lake in the mountains of the Bitterroot National Forest. After the hike up, Luke made one of the best quesadillas I’ve ever had! We all rested a bit and then it was off to kayaking! The kayaks were comfortable, easy to use, and allowed us to get some great views of the surrounding peaks. We then rested headed back down the trail, stopping for breaks and photos. What an awesome experience! If you’re looking for a great time in the Bitterroots, book this trip. You won’t regret it!

This was my first time doing an overnight trip carrying a pack on my back the whole way. I was extremely nervous and worried that I wouldnt make it. Luke provided everything I could have ever needed (but couldnt afford to buy for myself) to cover the basics, plus some extra comforts. He stopped on the trail to check in and take breaks periodically, and I didnt even have to ask for them. The highlight of the trip was getting to the reservoir- I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but it was breathtaking and worth every step I took up the mountain to get there. If you are new to backpacking or hiking, I absolutely recommend booking with Bitterroot Backpacking. Luke is an excellent guide who is easygoing, knowledgable, and an absolute pleasure to spend time chatting with on your journey.
