History Of Chocolate and 10 Bar Hawaiian Craft Chocolate Tasting

Honolii Orchards offers an intimate experience where guests have ample time to take photos, explore the farm, relax in the tasting room, and make purchases without feeling rushed. Unlike many tour operations in Hawaii that hurry their guests through, we provide a uniquely unhurried experience—a breath of fresh air in a beautiful and serene setting.

We also serve as a genetic bank, housing cacao varieties that are not commonly found. This allows guests to explore both the flavors that captivated ancient Mesoamericans and the new flavors from modern genetic varieties that drive the contemporary craft chocolate movement.

Driven by rigorous science, we are not just a commercial farm and tour operation but also a public research enterprise. Currently, we are participating in four active research projects and are specially equipped to support ongoing research as our orchards mature. All research published using data from our farm will be publicly available, benefiting farmers worldwide.

All 6 of us had such a wonderful time that we talked about it for days. What a wonderful and informative experience it was. Will take other visitors we have there because it was so awesome!!!!

This was my second visit to Honolii Orchards. I brought friends up because the first tour I experienced was so amazing. I had to introduce them to such a wonderful place and tour. My friends really loved it and so did I! The cultural and historical information about chocolate is so informative. But most of all we all really enjoyed the tasting opportunities. Wow! The local setting is in a beautiful and wonderful Hawaiian environment which is very calming. The entire experience really makes for an excellent and memorable excursion. Highly suggest going, definitely worth it! I have more friends visiting the island soon and will be bringing them!

A beautiful spot not far from Hilo with multiple varieties and ages of cocoa trees. Just the right detail on growing and production, and then history of chocolate and the tasting.
