Dumbo
DUMBO is an abbreviation of "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass". In the 1890s, Fulton, who invented the steam locomotive, used the Fulton Ferry as a ferry boat here until this bridge was built. At the time, it was mainly an industrial area with machinery and paper box manufacturing factories and warehouses for storing products. However, due to the hollowing out of manufacturing, it became a residential area in the 1970s, and it was around that time that it started to be called DUMBO. Land prices have been rising since around 2000, and now it is a strange landscape where luxury apartments stand side by side with fashionable stores that have been renovated from old warehouses.
