Just a few minutes away from all the hustle and bustle of Sarasota is our favorite local beach, Turtle Beach. It is only a few short miles from the main Siesta Key beach to Turtle Beach and the Sarasota County trolley will drop you right there. Not only is this area such a beautiful and quiet place, it is also a great place to paddle!

We start on the intercostal and paddle down a short canal to the Bay. We paddle around the mangrove islands through a mangrove tunnel or two and alongside a bird rookery.

We paddle around the mangrove islands of Jim Neville Marine Preserve and then to a "secret" beach. This beach is only accessible by boat so we may have it to ourselves. Such a beautiful place for a quick swim or just stopping for a few moments to relax. You may want to stay here all day.

This location is home to all kinds of wildlife including manatees (when water temps are warm enough), dolphins, beautiful sea and shorebirds and lots of fish.

We saw Manatees!! Years of kayaking and today was the day. Our guide was great. We had wonderful weather, fantastic guidance and varied and fun activities. Will definitely return for more years. Each time has been fun and different from past paddles.

A nice and leisurely kayak down a canal back out to the ocean. We went through some cool mangroves and saw some of the local wildlife. We didn’t see any manatees but the trip was still fun and a great way to see another side of the island.

My initial contact with SurfIt was ok. Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe they were too busy. I booked anyway. SO glad I did. Obviously, no one can "guarantee" wildlife sightings, but Aaron knew what he was doing, what to look for, and boy did we hit the manatee jackpot. The photos don't do our experience justice. As far as the outfit goes, they did a nice job. The kayaks and SUPs looked to be in good shape, dry bags were offered and we were on our way. But the reality is, I came for one thing and got it in spades.
