So I know there aren’t a lot of reviews on this one, but those that are here reflect exactly how it goes.
It’s a long bus ride, about 45 minutes and it’s a remote pot hole riddled road for a significant part of the ride... so if nothing else, it’s an adventure just getting there. Then they gear you up with your life vest and ore and load you into the boat. Boats are fantastic and easy to maneuver. We adored Doran. We must’ve said his name 50 times on the ride back so we could make sure to put it on here. He’s funny, knowledgeable, and you can tell he loves this job. There’s so much joy that it becomes infectious. Ask for him! I’m not kidding.
It’s Ketchikan- it rains like 310+ days/year. We had rain gear, but our pants still got soaked and we were chilly. It felt so right in the rainforest though. Not a worry in the world.
So then the canoeing on the lake, gorgeousness, history, echos (too fun), then you dock and munch on delicious and very Alaskan eats. Chowder is bubbling over the fire when you arrive along with hot chocolate and coffee.
Then the hike. Tons of information on plants and animals in a short easy hike. You almost want more, but based on our time constraints ashore, this was perfect.
Overall- I love how this business was managed. The good old boy feel comes through in the best way. Almost like you’re family. Highly recommend.
