Cross Meeting St. do pierwotnego miasta otoczonego murami, gdzie omawiamy Pres. Wizyta Waszyngtona i „pierwsze” Charleston. W drodze powrotnej ponownie rozmawiamy o niewolnictwie, gościnności, przyjaznych społeczeństwach i kolonialnym Charleston. Kończąc naszą wycieczkę, kończymy z naszą kulturą kulinarną, wysyłając Cię na posiłek do miasta z opcjami doznań kulinarnych w mieście!

Charleston
We begin at the Laurens/Rutledge house at 117 Broad St.This home and the one across the street are deeply imbedded in the founding of our country. Then work our way around to Tradd St. - stopping at the Sword Gates and the home of Col. John Stewart while discussing English history, the founding of the colony, architecture, epidemics, disasters, two wars and more. Cross Meeting St. into the original walled city, where we discuss Pres. Washington’s visit and Charleston “firsts”. Ending on Bay St to see the city planned by the Lord’s Proprietors, discussing why it was built and why it came down. On to the High Battery to discuss the start of two wars in our harbor, the last Royal Govenor and the beginning and end of the Civil War. As we make our way back, we discuss slavery, hospitality, friendly societies and colonial Charleston once more. Rounding out our tour, we conclude with our food culture as we send you off to eat in the city with options for dining experiences in town!

Karen was our tour leader on the Charleston walking tour. She was great - super prepared and knowledgeable and fun. She had charts and graphs that were easy to understand and illustrated the social and economic background behind physical things, she knew the names of the trees and plants as well as the history behind houses and buildings and she walked and talked at just the right pace. We had a very interesting discussion on the Jim Crow era in Charleston. And her restaurant recommendations were spot on. The tour was a highlight of our visit to Charleston.

Following the failure of another operator, we’re incredibly fortunate to find Karen and enjoy a fascinating tour of historical Charleston. She provides both strolling and driving tours- we took the driving tour. Her passion and in-depth knowledge of the history, architecture and back stories of Charleston’s events, personalities and their place in history was both enjoyable and educational. We only had a short time here, but feel we got wonderful introduction to one of America’s great cities. Thank you Karen!
