Madams of DC Walking Tour

Przegląd
This tour is offered the first and third Friday of the month. Check website for exact schedule. All tours available for private tours.

The Madams in DC walking tour gives you a totally unique side of DC's history that you won't hear anywhere else. The Civil War completely transformed the capital, and turned Pennsylvania Avenue into a red light district lined with bawdy houses, taverns, theaters, and commercial ventures. Hard to imagine, now that it's lined with monolithic government buildings! You'll learn about how the women who worked in these brothels made their way in life, and even had an impact on affairs of government.

2
Muzeum Archiwum Narodowego
Kontynuując naszą podróż w czasie, dowiesz się o życiu prostytutek w wojnie secesyjnej DC i roli, jaką odegrały w społeczeństwie, przechodząc obok dawnego miejsca największego centralnego rynku miejskiego w DC.
3
Narodowa Galeria Sztuki
Dawne miejsce Marble Alley, gdzie dwie najlepiej opłacane Madams w DC toczyły zaciekłą rywalizację.
4
Narodowe Muzeum Indian Amerykańskich
Podczas wykopalisk archeologicznych odkryto szczątki najsłynniejszej, a zarazem charytatywnej Madams w Waszyngtonie. Wycieczka kończy się w tym najbardziej efektownym domu rozrywki z czasów wojny secesyjnej w DC.

Katie is such an amazing tour guide! I had such a great time making connections and seeing the link between our history and architecture. The madams tour gave me really great insight about the inner workings and entrepreneurship of women during the civil war times. I really enjoyed walking by spaces and learning about the night life that once existed. Can’t wait to do another tour!

This tour is fantastic! Starting at one side of Penn Ave and walking to the other, our guide painted vivid pictures of DC during the Civil War as it played host to the union army. It was a combination of feminism, politics and scandal. Thoroughly enjoyed! Highly recommend!!

We have now done three tours with Katie of Off the Mall Tours, Madams of DC, Wives Who Won the Cold War, and now District of Punk. All the tours are fun, informative, and you never feel rushed or shushed like in some of the more stodgy tours. I highly recommend Off the Mall and all their tours.
