Madams of DC Walking Tour

Przegląd
This tour is offered the first and third Friday of the month. Check website for exact schedule. All tours available for private tours.

The Madams in DC walking tour gives you a totally unique side of DC's history that you won't hear anywhere else. The Civil War completely transformed the capital, and turned Pennsylvania Avenue into a red light district lined with bawdy houses, taverns, theaters, and commercial ventures. Hard to imagine, now that it's lined with monolithic government buildings! You'll learn about how the women who worked in these brothels made their way in life, and even had an impact on affairs of government.

Muzeum Archiwum Narodowego

Dawne miejsce Marble Alley, gdzie dwie najlepiej opłacane Madams w DC toczyły zaciekłą rywalizację.
4
Narodowe Muzeum Indian Amerykańskich
Podczas wykopalisk archeologicznych odkryto szczątki najsłynniejszej, a zarazem charytatywnej Madams w Waszyngtonie. Wycieczka kończy się w tym najbardziej efektownym domu rozrywki z czasów wojny secesyjnej w DC.

I took the Madams of D.C. tour, and it was very interesting. Not only fun and engaging but deeply researched and informative! Who knew that there was once a famous bordello where the Native American museum is now located? Or that there was a "cattery" where elected officials met with female lobbyists at the Capital -- many of them madams? Loved this! I plan to go to one of her other offerings...

Everyone interested in Civil War Washington should take this tour, as it's really the best way to understand the now-erased Murder Bay neighborhood about which so much was written at the time. It's also a great tour for anyone interested in women's history, sex work, or just what DC looked like before all the monumental buildings.

This is the best walking tour that I've ever attended! I've lived in DC for many years, and I didn't know any of the great stories Katie told. The amount of research she's put into the tour is perfectly matched with her sense of humor and friendly manner. If you only take one walking tour while you're in the city, take one of hers!
