We reserved a two-person kayak earlier in the week for a 10am Saturday 2-hour mini adventure during our day trip to Key Largo. We opted to go out on our own, instead of one of the guided tours.
We had a wonderful time, with a hint of rain, smooth, clear water, lots of little fish, coral, and plenty of relaxation.
We paddled, maybe, 1/4 mile north, came back, then had a Rum Runner, sitting on some shaded benches, overlooking the gulf. There is a landmark bar next door to the north and one of the better restaurants of the Keys, next door, on the south.
The check-in office is in a large souvenir shop, which is worth a visit on its own. Staff is very friendly. Our kayak was beached for us by Craig, who was super nice and gave us lots of tips on kayaking to make sure we had a good time.
You can’t go wrong with renting a kayak here. Make sure you bring sunscreen, a swim suit, a hat, a camera, and lots of water.
