I went on the Mojo Extended Tour including Sun Studios and I found the musician, Cecile, absolutely wonderful. Cecile was talented, funny, knowledgeable and just an all around great guy; he obviously loves Memphis and music and is very knowledgeable about local history. If I had only been on the tour for Cecile's portion, I'd be giving it a five star review.
BUT, as soon as Cecile got off the bus and we were on our way to Sun Studios, the driver, Gary, decided it was his time to shine and began telling an overly embellished story of meeting Elvis when he was age 5; this was all well and good, but after Sun Studios, he decided that it was appropriate to minister to a bus full of people. He clearly wanted a chance to sing and said his boss had told him to stop singing on the tour due to past complaints, so he said he would wait to sing until the bus was parked and "the tour was over"; however, when he parked the bus, he left the door closed and quickly left his seat as it was clear that all he wanted to do was minister to this passengers and sing a hymn - and very poorly at that.
This experience nearly ruined the entire tour for me. If I wanted to attend church, I would attend church. I did not spend good money to hear about Gary's embellished memories, his love for Jesus, or to hear him sing. Though he said we were free to get off the bus, the fact that he left the door closed and quickly left his seat before any of the tour group could get out of theirs meant that we were an audience without a choice.
I waited two days to make the review because I was so angry and annoyed with his behaviour; I wanted to let my emotions settle before writing something I regretted and I didn't want my review to reflect badly on Cecile.
In summary, Cecile was great, but I'd be unlikely to recommend this tour to friends because of Gary; he obviously didn't respect his passengers and only wanted to have his time to shine. I found his behaviour extremely inappropriate.
