What a great adventure! I highly recommend this excursion for everyone in the family; no experience required. Our guide, Tammy, was knowledgeable and funny and the time flew by. We were lucky to see so many bald eagles and sea lions this trip. We definitely would do this again.

What you get to do: - kayak in a tandem boat in sight of the Mendenhall Glacier - see lots of eagles and maybe some harbor seals or sea lions - paddle in a big circle in a fairly calm water unless the wind picks up - attacked by midges and noseeums on the beach (headnet recommended) What you don't do: - paddle near the glacier. You are miles away from it - go to any particular destination in the inlet Perhaps my expectations were bigger, but I can't say this was really would be something I would do again. I have kayaked in other places and I think a tour works better than what is essentially what you might find at a kayak gear demo at your local lake. The staff were great. They kept everyone together, and would help you if needed. The company provides you with everything you need gear wise. Do bring a rain jacket and something to keep your phone/camera dry if you take it. Do NOT bring a big camera with a telephoto lens. You won't be able to use it. If it's cloudy you might get cold. If the sun is out you may get a little hot. You do get a little snack at the end. Nothing huge. Unless you have kayaked before, you may have some trouble steering. This can test the bonds of a relationship once people get tired, so be warned. It's a good, relatively cheap excursion, but you don't get a whole lot of it.

Corbin, Sorry, it wasn't what you expected. The area is approximately 8 miles from the glacier. It has the best view of the glacier and surrounding mountains in Juneau. Kayaking in a double kayak can test the bonds of a relationship, just like canoeing or any other activity two people might try to do together. Thank you for the feedback. Double kayaks are well maintained and you get boots and a kayak skirt so you don’t get wet. Guides Ben and Gabe were fun and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for friends, family, anyone really. Beautiful views from the water.
