Our family of six took the Midnight Sun Adventure Tour with a side-by-side and a 4-person Wolverine. It was a gorgeous evening. Props to the launch site staff and guides Boots, Maps, and the Coal Goblin, whose high-energy banter set the tone for the tour. Our group seemed large--over 15 vehicles. Thankfully the group size didn't hinder our speed or overall experience.
There are three stopping points on this route. The first is an overlook in which you can see Healy and the points beyond. The guide spoke about the Mt. Healy Overlook Trail and the history of Mount Dora. The second stop is a sandy river bank. The guide gave a quick lesson about the unique topography and river rocks. Guests were able to poke around a bit and search for rocks. The ATVs returned to the trail via the river. It gives a thrill with minimal splashing. The third stop is another high point lookut, which affords a nice view of the Savage River Valley. As advertised, we saw a beautiful sunset scene, around 11:00 pm.
The stops are necessary to really enjoy the vast landscape as there's not much to see while on the trail, just trees. Don't expect to see animals because the ATVs make a lot of noise. Do expect to get wet (if it's raining) or dusty (if it's not). Goggles and gloves are only provided for those riding Kodiaks, so come prepared. You may even want a bandana to cover the mouth and nose while driving.
