After having the most wonderful time on a previous trip with Get In The Wild a few years ago, I just had to go back for more. (You can read my previous review on TripAdvisor.) Yup, just what I thought it was going to be... more of the terrific, safe, and adventurous fun that I remembered, only just a little more technical and challenging on this route. My first-timer friends who came along with me can't stop raving about it. Christopher Hagedorn is the quintessential guide. Patient, caring, ultra-safe. He doesn't just take you along, he makes you part of his team. As an educator, he freely shares his endless knowledge of the activity, the area, and it's history. And he packs you a darn good lunch too! Hoping to be back again in a couple of years, next time with my all my kids and grandkids. It's just way too good not to share it.

I have gone out with Christopher on a number of canyon adventures. I have taken the Photography Workshop, the Canyon Leadership Course, as well as a 3 day basecamping and canyoneering adventure in Robbers Roost, a single day trip and a two day private trip to the North Wash canyons. Christopher is an excellent teacher and guide, he is very patient with newbies and happy to up the challenge for those with more experience. If you are looking for a fun half day, or a couple of 10 hour plus epic days basecamping and canyoneering in the Roost or want to start learning how to do canyons on your own Get In the Wild will take care of you. In particular I would recommend getting out of the chaos of Moab and into the solitude of Robbers Roost, North Wash and the Swell. You will be glad you did.

Hi Marybeth, Thank you very much for your review. It’s always a pleasure getting out in the canyons with you at the incredible outdoor landscapes we are fortunate to call our office and our home. Helping facilitate unique and amazing experiences that are not only fun and exciting, but educational as well has always been a passion for me. After joining us for our Redrock Photography Workshop, Technical Canyoneering Course, and multiple, exciting, guided canyoneering adventures, I can definitely say together we have enjoyed some truly memorable experiences. After all, how many guides can say that they have guests and students that sing “Edelweiss” for them in the canyons? Thank you for connecting with us at Get In The Wild and I look forward to getting out in the wild with you again in the future. Sincerely, Christopher Owner/Lead Guide Get In The Wild Adventures

I had a phenomenal 3-day adventure with Get in the Wild. Chris (lead guide) worked with me for over a month to find excursions that I could join as a solo traveller during my vacation time. I did 3 single-day canyoneering excursions in Stairway to Heaven (Robber's Roost), the Goblin's Lair, and Hogwarts Canyon (North Wash). Chris and his assistants Mike and Dmitria were excellent teachers. Chris focuses on fun, safety, and protecting the beautiful solitude of the canyons around Hanksville, UT. He is a wealth of knowledge about canyoneering (and other activities), wilderness safety, and the local natural and anthropological history of the area. He is a calm and patient teacher who can coax anyone over the edge of a rappel or through a down climb safely. He is happy to have photographers along and can point out numerous beautiful areas. I learned so much and got to see parts of Utah that I could never experience without Get in the Wild. Of course, I was jittery about backing over the edge of a 90' free rappel the first time, but I never felt unsafe or pressured to do something beyond my ability, and I loved every minute of my trip. By my third excursion, I could tell a big difference in my comfort level. I highly recommend spending a day or more with Chris and his team and look forward to my own return trip. Check out their website or contact Chris for more information about different courses and excursions in Utah and Washington. About the logistics: lunch or snacks are provided depending on the length of the trip. You should provide your own water (2L or more) and comfortable shoes. Chris can teach anyone through a canyon, but be honest with yourself about strenuous activity at elevation. You may have to drive 20-30 minutes to your trailhead. Roads in the area are paved or graded dirt (passable to any vehicle driven carefully). You'll need a day pack, but go light so that your bag fits easily into the nooks and crannies of the canyons. The sandstone is hard on any material, so don't bring anything you wouldn't mind a few scuffs and cuts on.
