Myakka Canopy Walkway
The Myakka Canopy Walkway provides easy access to observe life in the treetops of an oak/palm hammock. As an outdoor laboratory for research and education, it is also a place for discovery and provides an opportunity for visitors to see canopy inhabitants up close. Completed in 2000, this structure is the first public treetop trail in North America. The walkway is suspended 25 feet above the ground and extends 100 feet through the hammock canopy. The taller tower soars 74 feet in the air to present a spectacular view of treetops, wetlands and the prairie/hammock interface. You can look down on eagles, hawks, vultures, and the tops of live oak and sabal palm trees.

Well, my 14 year old kid does not like to do anything. He whined the whole way to the park. We started the trip and it was the first time in a long time I saw him smile. We had 3 hr tour that where he did not whine and did not even ask if we were done yet. We got to spend time as a family with no fighting. The tour guide was awesome and we saw a lot of wild life.

Derek and Jeff (and the doggy in the backpack) were excellent tour guides. They were responsive but very easygoing. We saw at least 5-6 alligators up close and they were able to tell us interesting tidbits and the individual gators which was very cool. The E-bikes were new to all 3 of us and quite fun!

Jack was amazing! Very knowledgeable about the area, wildlife and vegetation. Jack’s assistant Odie was fun too! Definitely recommend.
