We were recently married in Savannah and the day after the wedding before everyone headed back home, we decided to do a group trolley tour of Savannah. I have used this business before and was relatively happy with the experience. However, this time, we were greatly disappointed and wish we could get our time back!. The girl from the office-Macy I believe was her name- was great as well as the young black girl that helped us at the station where our tickets were printed and the tour started. First of all, we bought the overview and not the on-off tour...in doing so, I had assumed that we would be on a trolley that didn't make stops since none of us were getting off- That is a mistake. It still makes stops for people to get on and off...which makes the crowdedness of the trolley a bit awkward at times. Our biggest disappointment was in the tour guide. I don't know that he mentioned his name (perhaps Charles?)- though I'm sure he did at the beginning...but he was an older gentleman with white hair with a strong southern accent that seemed to be what he liked to further when he talked during the 'tour'- it was less when he spoke with the persons back at the station. It was such an issue that it sounded like he was trying out for a movie set in the rural, uneducated, deep south. I am from Georgia and I know that I have an accent but he was accentuating so much that it felt like an insult! We had several younger people in their 20s traveling with us who don't know much about Savannah and I'd say they know very little more now than they did before we started! He spent a great deal of time talking as if he was rambling that it was very hard to follow...even for us who have been to Savannah and taken several tours before. He spoke a good bit about movies that he had been an extra in and also where he enjoyed eating- because he knew people that worked or managed there. There was a ton of historical information he left out. For example, as we passed by Wright Square, he just briefly threw out- Tomochichi is buried there...no mention of who he was or why he was there- or that there is a rock to stand as a marker. When we passed by 'The Waving Girl'- he spoke very condescendingly saying " I guess if you wave a towel at ships for forty years, they'll give you a statue." He spoke a great deal in that kind of tone. Every time he mentioned a popular 'haunted' spot for other tours, he'd say " There're spirits in there for sure...don't know if there're any ghost". I felt like we traveled down more side streets that actual historical streets. He'd say "over there is the smallest house in Georgia"- but never pointed or drove by it. No mention of the Pirate's House except it's a good place to eat. Every time he'd let someone on, he'd ask if we voted to let them ride...then he'd comment again when they got off. I just felt like he resented his job and doesn't appreciate the deep history of Savannah. Several of our guest missed the beach in Tybee to take a tour and we spent a lot of money and time to not know more than we did when we started. Very disappointed. I know that there are better drivers that do appreciate the history and speak with respect and knowledge...however he spoke like he thought very little of the history and that he's tired of giving tours...and ours was at 11am so it wasn't because it had been a long day. Two characters got on our trolley- Jim Williams and Mary Telfair. Jim was good...couldn't really understand Mary...she rambled a good bit as well. Overall, we were very disappointed. I am sorry that we wasted our time and money...on a group that would have been better off to just spend a few hours at the beach!!

This was a most enjoyable trolly experience. We parked in the Visitors Center and left from there. Our first stop at the Trolly Depot we paid for either a continuous ride, or hop on hop off at any of the 16 sites. We stayed on, it was a difference of $8.00 between the two options. Our driver was excellent, he informed us of his family’s roots in the city for 150 years. He was thorough, knowledgeable, engaging, and was available for questions posed about the city. He met and exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this tour for your first day in the area, it really helps to establish your bearings of key locations you plan to visit while here.

We had the best time on this tour! Totally worth it. Our driver was amazing, hilarious, and told us some great history. The characters in costume were a really cool part of the tour. Highly recommended!
