Hudson Yards (and The Vessel) had only been open a few days before our visit. It is still an active construction site, but The Vessel was open to guests. Tickets (free) were required to climb The Vessel and it was a fun experience. The views are very good from the top. The High Line ends at Hudson Yards. Unfortunately, the High LIne is no longer a secret and was very, very crowded ... but still a worthwhile walk. The shops at Hudson Yards are very high end ... geared to the employees of Morgan Stanley, I guess!

You need a ticket, at least for the time being. They are free and easy to get on line. The website is very user friendly and flawless in the operation and making it painless to wait. If you stand at the very bottom, close to the Vessel, it appears solid. You can follow a stairway all the way to the top by following the alphabetical number of the staircase. Be sure to go to the center of the vessel, entry floor level, and place your phone on the circular center. It will allow your phone to count down from 5 and take a picture of the entire interior of the vessel. Lean in, it will be a very fun neon blue selfie. There is an elevator that is fun to watch how it moves up and down the track and makes it so everyone can enjoy the interactive art piece.

First of all, you can probably safely ignore what you see online about having to book ahead online for tickets for the Vessel. We wasted a lot of time doing that unnecessarily. They were handing out timed-entry tickets on Sunday in the plaza at 11:00 AM for a 2:10 PM entry, which left time for lunch and worked out fine. It's really something to see and walk around on. Hudson Yards is an interesting place to see although it is still very much part of an active construction site. Watch some YouTubes first about the development of the whole area - it will make more sense. Try to get to the Vessel ticket area first before touring the Shops area (stores, restaurants.) Once you know your time, go back to the stores and walk around the 4 floors. The 4th floor observation deck is not yet open. Mostly what you'll see are other people and their smartphones taking pictures of each other in the Shops area, plaza, vessel area, High Line, and everywhere else. Tourists, locals, a lot of strollers, and a fair amount of kids. Go early, the crowds build quickly throughout the day. Stores and restaurants are all very expensive, as expected. Walk the High Line for great river views. I was happy to relax in the small beer garden by Penn Station/MSG before heading home on the train.
