haleakala sunrise tour - very witty tour driver Wayne was great but unfortunately for us upon approaching the summit after a 2+ hour bus ride we had rain, clouds and zero view.
At the top we were told to get out at 6am for a 6:45am sunrise and just not where not to go, no mention of a good spot to go to nor did the driver get off with us. Other tours around us were given insulated ponchos while we were not. For the price, $220+ per person, I couldn’t recommend this tour. Obviously the poor weather was out of the control but between the early morning wake up, the 10+ hour round trip time spent on a bus and the lack of additional amenities id honestly just YouTube the sunrise and play it on your big screen tv. Expectations set by the bus driver surely didn’t match what I’m sure they knew we’d see, which was absolutely nothing. Couldn’t see a thing as there was so much rain and cloud the morning we went.
Didn’t expect it but hearing something from the tour company other than a request for a review would have been nice. So here’s the review! Wouldn’t recommend you take this overpriced tour, you’d be better off renting a car, booking a time to enter the park a few weeks in advance, and going yourself. At least you wouldn’t have spent nearly $500 / couple to see only clouds, no sun at all and freeze while wasting an entire morning.
As others have mentioned, breakfast was nothing to write home about. Overall does not warrant the price. Book elsewhere.
