This tide pool is a local secret. It's off the beaten path. A miracle of nature. We'll use a jungle/lava rock coastal trail. Each way takes 30-40 min (1/2 mile) (10 minutes in jungle, 20-30 minutes on coast). Only your group will participate. I'll teach you about the pool's ecosystem and the local environment. You'll also have time to explore/relax privately.

- Elevation gain on the hike offers amazing coastal views. Sea turtles are a common sight in the distance.
- The pool is like an infinity pool overlooking cliffs. The water is crystal clear. It's highly likely you'll be alone because this spot is so unknown.
- The pool is like an an aquarium with fish, hermit crabs, rock crabs, sea cucumbers, shrimp, snails, spaghetti worms, pink coralline algae, seaweed, shells, & cool rocks.
- Waves strike cliffs and shoot water in the air like a blowhole (conditions permitting). A once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
- The pool is calm/safe with a deep (4-7 ft.) & shallow (1-4 ft.) area.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Wear hiking shoes, hiking sandals, or athletic shoes for the hike. Hiking shoes are most ideal. If you wear sandals, closed-toe are most ideal.
Wear water shoes at the tide pool. Closed-toe shoes with durable soles are most ideal.
Wear a bathing suit and bring a towel. There are no bathrooms at the tide pool.
Many people bring a snorkeling mask or goggles.
Apply "reef safe" sunscreen before the hike to minimize its contact with the tide pool water. Bug spray is unnecessary because there are no ticks and very few bugs or mosquitoes.
Some people bring a first aid kit because I don't provide one.

My friend and I tried to cancel with the “tour operator” more than 24 hours before the tour after reading the reviews and deciding that this was not the thing for us to do. We could not reach him and while I was on hold with Viator the 24 hour deadline passed. Several hours later he texted and said no refund at all. So, we decided to go. We met him at a park and followed him to the location. The hike through the jungle was easy. We got to the lava field that we had to climb down and across to get to the tide pool. I opted not to proceed. I had visions of breaking a hip and being rescued by a helicopter. Josh was so far ahead that helping either of us was out of the question. My friend made it to the pool. Josh sat really far from her. On the way back up she fell. Fortunately just scratches and bruises. He didn’t seem to give a crap. We made it back to the car, relieved that this experience was over. I regret the whole experience.

This booking originally took place in June of 2023. I've improved as a tour guide since then, so perhaps that is one reason for the reviewer's negative perception of me and my guide style.

Highly recommend this hike. Josh is a great guide with a lot of knowledge about the plants surrounding the tide pool and aquatic life inside the pool. He is generally just a great guy and pleasant to be around. The pool is in a very special spot surrounded by the rugged coast offering an oasis within the harsh black lava fields. The hike is short but goes through sharp lava fields making wearing sturdy shoes a must. We had a great day with Josh! Thank you!

Great tour that you cannot do without Josh! Not just the tidal pool was breathtaking, if you love plants and are into foraging, you’d love this tour. Josh is knowledgeable in plants too. I wouldn’t mind taking a walk everyday in the jungle or even just along the road that we drive there. My husband spotted an octopus. Josh pointed us to like hundreds of crabs on the cliff.
