The seating was a little uncomfortable, felt cramped in on both sides and across from me. Otherwise it was okay...We were on the old boat the next day they were rolling out the newly designed boats.
Go figure!
San Antonio hop on/hop off tour was a great way to see the city. Tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. Only complaint was that air conditioning did not work on at least 2 of the buses.
We used the Hop on Hop off bus for two of the three days. We were really disappointed with our first day tour...we couldn't hear the driver/narrator over the background narration/music. We stayed on the bus for the entire route, just to see what was offering in the way of sites to visit. The drive gave some good tidbits of information concerning the architecture and history of the buildings and a little bit about the history of some of the sites. Truthfully we were not overly impressed with the information we received. On the second day, we had an entirely different experience...the drive was clearer, a little more precise in what we would see and what was available to see at all of the stops on his route. We got off the bus at the Market Center, and spent an hour and a half walking, looking, buying, and we stopped at Mi Terra to eat, but they had such a long wait, we continued on our journey. Picked up a second bus at stop 13 and continued on our way. Got a very quiet driver for this portion, relied on the recorded narration mostly. Stopped off at the VFW post 76 we had heard so much about this place and found some of the information was wrong as to what was served at the bar. True, beer was cold, but other choices were very limited. Walked down the street to Auggie's BBQ, and some to the most tender, juicy brisket I have ever had in my life. It is seasoned with a dry rub, and unless you are really into the wet sauces, it really doesn't need anything else. I opted to stay with the dry rub coating. Beer was really cold, drink choices were great, and the bartender Laura ??? was wonderful, fun, and informative. She should have been a driver/guide for the tour. We caught the next bus at the Auggie's pickup spot and just continue all the way to the Alamo pick-up spot. We didn't use our third free day pass since we discovered just how close most of the places we wanted to visit were within walking distance of our hotel. We were disappointed that there was no option to Hop On Hop Off at the Missions in the area. This is some that were really wanted to see, and we found a different mode of transportation to see these. All in all, it was okay, and I would recommend taking the time to go all the way around the route first, then decide where you really want to Hop On and Hop Off. Our package included the Boat Cruise on the Riverwalk, and entrance to the Tower of the America's. We used both. Boat Cruise is great, and we chose to use the Tower of the America's as the place to celebrated our 45th Anniversary by having dinner at the Chart House Restaurant at the top of the tower.
