I love the concept. The execution was, eh. I thought this was a great way to spend time with friends while broadening cultural horizons, but I would never do it in the Mission again. It is a very dirty area. I couldn't believe how trashed the streets were.
Our tour guide, David, was likable, but arrived late to the tour and seemed to be flustered while going place to place. I liked how he gave tidbits about the food, the area and the artwork. I do think he could have gone a little further by introducing and having us talk to the owners/staff if they weren't too busy, which some of the places we went to were empty and would have been easy to do. Also, we had asked some questions along the way involving the artwork David was showing us and he kept saying, "I'm always asked that question, but I don't have the answer." I would think if it was a common question, it would be good to research to have an answer for future, but no big deal. It just seemed like a little more effort could have been made on the presentation.
The La Taqueria stop was my favorite, food-wise. It was a good way to start. The Mission Street Oyster Bar was also tasty. The other stops were ok, but I wasn't impressed. I was not a fan of the salted caramel ice cream at the Bi-Rite Creamery, but maybe it was just my taste. I felt like I licked the ocean floor it was so salty. I also read that wine was included on the tour, which it wasn't. I thought I misread that, but another person on the tour said the same thing. I think the wine would have been a nice touch, but if not, at least one more stop. I just felt like we didn't quite get our money's worth.
