Shannon has a gifted style for telling the stories of Bonaventure Cemetery’s most interesting residents. He expertly weaves in national, regional and local history during the two hour walk. You can read about the vast cemetery, but frankly nothing beats a guided tour. From the Masonic influences and history to Johnnie Mercer, you get a tour de force of Savannah’s expansive history. Shannon is an excellent guide and one can tell within 5 minutes that he has a passion for his work. He conducts original research and preservation activities that make him the Oracle of Obituaries. He is patient and never rushed us around as I saw some other guides do. He made a connection with kids and adults alike. After two hours in the hot Georgia sun, my kids were still engaged listeners which speaks volumes of Shannon’s gifted storytelling. Couple practical notes: bring a bottle of water and it’s not a bad idea to put bug spray on. A wide brim hat is a must in the sun albeit Shannon stopped in shaded areas mercifully. A great tour experience and one that will last with us after the trip.

It was stinkin' hot today for our tour of the beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery, but Shannon Scott's stories were so compelling, full of details and imagery, we were just swept away and didn't mind the heat one bit. Shannon's passion for history is certainly evident! I didn't expect to learn as much as I did on the 2-hour tour. His stories definitely evoked additional curiosity in me about the cemetery and the people at rest there. If you do this tour, just be sure to bring water, bug spray, and comfy shoes. You won't want anything to distract you from Shannon Scott's mesmerizing experience.

We recently took this tour and I can tell you I appreciate the research and years of storytelling. It was clear Shannon was sharing with us his love and passion for Savannah history and his love of the cemetery. I’ve been on tours before where the guide was reading from the companies script and this was quite the opposite. A little humor, a little folklore and a ton of history brought this tour alive for me. Take the tour you will not be disappointed. Great for families with teens that want a little razzle dazzle with their history. They will not be bored.
