It was a dark, dismal day, but the tour with Shannon went on with a few umbrella pop-ups! Actually, the weather added to the ambiance of this famous cemetery! Shannon is an extremely talented storyteller and kept us memorized for over 2 hours!!! You need a guide to bring this huge cemetery to life! Be sure to bring bug spray and an umbrella/raincoat depending on the weather forecast. Shannon highlighted some of the famous people buried at Bonaventure such as Johnny Mercer which enticed us to rent the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil when we arrived home from our wonderful trip to Savannah! We highly recommend this tour rather than meander the grounds yourself. Well worth it!!!

We had traveled to Savannah with friends for a 3 day getaway in late July. We had enjoyed our travels throughout the city, taking advantage of the food, entertainment and sites. On our last day we had booked the Bonaventure Cemetery Tour with Shannon Scott. It was an overcast day and drizzling a little, but that did not affect our experience. Shannon is an excellent storyteller and is full of knowledge about Savannah, Bonaventure and its families. His tour brought history to life and he welcomed questions and ensured that we never felt rushed. We highly recommend this tour and is a must if you are visiting Savannah.

My daughter and I were interested in Bonaventure Cemetery, but we didn't want to do the typical trolley tour of this famed and fabled cemetery. We signed up for this particular walking tour and the host/storyteller/guide was Shannon Scott. Shannon brought Bonaventure Cemetery to life with his exquisite description of the planning of and maintenance of this beautiful place. I could imagine it in full bloom as it would have been in the 1800's, thanks to him. Among this most enchanting backdrop, Shannon masterly tells the historical life stories of the residents and how they came to live here; John Walz, Gracie Watson, Josiah Tattnall, Johnny Mercer and Connie Lawton. Throughout the tour, Shannon weaves the mystical, religious and spiritual meaning behind many of the sculptures and designs of the cemetery. Of all the sights seen in Savannah, Shannon made this a favorite for me and an experience I will share with anyone considering a trip to Savannah.
