On Oct. 30th 2022 I arrived at Seattle-Tacoma airport (SEA) on a flight from Incheon, Korea. I had 2 hours to catch my connecting flight to SLC. I did not make it. After a 30-minute wait for my bag, I spent one hour and 20 min in the immigration line and therefore missed my flight. I am aware that CBP is short-staffed so I am not going to complain about the fact that of 20 counters only 7 were open. A rather rude lady was ushering the arriving passengers around. There was a lot of confusion among the arriving passengers a of where to get in line. The lady explicitly said that once we are up we could approach any counter with a green light. So I did. I said good morning and wanted to hand my passport to the officer. He did not react and instead stared a me with an arrogance and viciousness that I have never experienced. He then said „I did not call you over“. I apologised and explained that I had been told to approach any counter with a green light. He just stonefacedly repeated „I did not call you over“ and turned away. What a welcome to the United States! He would not even look at my passport so I went back to the line and waited for another officer to call me. The behaviour of the first CBP officer truly rattled me. I was in no way brazen or entitled when I walked up to his counter. By that time I had already missed my flight so I wasn’t even in a hurry anymore. I was just another newly arrived visitor in a frankly very chaotic immigration process after a 9 hour red-eye. It would have taken so little to show a little kindness and graciousness. Instead it was one of the most pathetic displays of „the small man‘s 5 minutes of power“ that I have ever experienced.
