Clay Butte Fire Lookout Tower

The Clay Butte Lookout is home to a now disused fire tower, so you know it is going to have some of the very best expansive views. It requires driving 3 miles on an unpaved, but well-maintained spur road to access and is suitable for most regular passenger vehicles. A small visitor center operated by volunteers is found at the site in July and August.

What a fabulous guide to this incredible scenic drive! We would have missed so many things without this guide. The GPS pacing is perfect and reversible if you have to backtrack. The content is truly interesting and funny, our whole family loved it. I can’t believe how much we saw in a days drive, and this was just a few days after the pass opened for the season! Bring a picnic eat at the picnic areas at Lily Lake. Definitely looking at the other tours!

Without this terrific and folksy audio guided tour, we would have missed many of the important stops and background stories related to the Beartooth Highway experience.
