Top notch! Surf instructor has been surfing this island since she was a little girl and is super knowledgeable of the waters and the area. Kahala was clear with instructions so we felt safe and prepared, she was encouraging, and did the most to get us the best number of rides! The photogs were fabulous! $25 per person and they take a ton of photos of you on the water and when you get back they are already uploaded to your phone!! Awesome!! And they were great shots! I don’t know where they were, but they knew where we were in a sea of people! Amazing!! This was my daughter’s favorite thing to do on Maui! Glad we went with Maui Wave Riders!!! And they are right next to the pizza shop, so you can eat right after!!!

Our surf instructor was awesome!! Fun for both kids and adults!! Everyone was able to get up on the board more than once!

We took a 2 hour family lesson in Lahaina. Logistically everything was as expected. However, our instructor was hard for all of us (parents and kids) to work with. He talked “at” us constantly and most of it was unrelated to learning to surf. Lots of random thoughts and rhetorical questions on spirituality/meaning of life that were irrelevant and exhausting. When he did talk about surfing it was ok but often his instructions were not clear and he seemed frustrated and at times disparaging if we tried to clarify. There were a few fun things he did that exceeded expectations (a photo op). BUT we didn’t learn a lot and the experience seemed like it was all about him. He also complained about us not giving him enough of a tip when I don’t even know if he deserved a tip. I would NEVER want to do this again with the same instructor. The company was fine to work with. Beware your assigned instructor.
