The tour left without us, so I can’t review the tour. Viator gave a different departure address than the local company did. Unfortunately, we went to Viator’s address that was provided in the booking details. When we arrived and the tour bus was not there, I pulled up the email and frantically looked for information and found the other address. I immediately called the local company 15 minutes before departure time. Their message said they don’t monitor voicemail and try text that number, which I immediately did to say we were on our way. They did not respond. By the time we got to the correct location, 4 minutes after departure time, the tour was gone. In an email exchange with local company they blamed Viator for not changing their incorrect booking information. The local company won’t offer a refund, only a gift card for future use. We live 9 hours away, so that is not useful. Viator will not stand behind their service and give us a refund either. So we are out $300.

It is extremely disappointing to have a customer miss a tour when they wanted to attend the tour. We do not like to leave anyone behind and will often wait as long as we get a call or message of some kind. The number listed is a direct line to the driver so if you are running late you can contact the driver to let them know. Our drivers will call any guest who hasn't arrived by 10 till and will message them in an attempt to find out if they are coming. We never know if the listed number is a good working number. When our driver called it went to voicemail so he sent a message on the Viator app. The other guests had been sitting there on the bus almost 30 minutes so when you didn't arrive by 9:00 am he sent a message to Viator letting them know you were a no call no show and then departed. Once the tour departs we can't turn around because the driver turns the phone off and all you will hear is that message saying the voicemail isn't monitored. We offered you a gift card so you could rebook your tour. You could have used it immediately to book a new tour the same day or next day or any day in the future. We have had the same policy since our company was founded and giving you a refund for missing your tour is like spitting in the face of every other person who missed their tour and made the same request. It's unfortunate that you missed your tour and we don't like it at all. Hopefully you enjoyed your time in the area enough to want to make the 9 hour trip back to see the Smoky Mountains again some day and when you did you'd have a tour already paid in advance waiting for you. Although we do not give refunds for a no call no show we do want every guest to at least have the opportunity to get the tour they paid for. Our gift card never expires. We only have 1 address listed on our product page. We have no control over the information that Viator gives guests. If I could I would send you a screen shot showing you that we have only 1 address. We have been using that address for nearly 3 years now so if they gave you the wrong address we wouldn't know what it is or why they gave it to you. We can only change very specific information on our product page and it wouldn't be very useful to us to list the wrong address now would it? I encourage everyone to read, really really read every word on your email confirmation when you book any tour with any company. Read it 3 times if you need to until you fully comprehend the information listed. If you feel confused by any of the information or see more than one address please call or message the tour company right away and don't wait until you are only minutes away from depart time or past departure time. This is why reviews are unfair to businesses ... we did everything we were suppose to. We made our address and directions as clear as possible. About 98% of guests show up on time to the correct address which is a testament to that fact. Our driver waited for a 30 full minutes from 8:30 am to 9:00 am for all guests to arrive and even attempted to reach you when you had not arrived on time. Even after missing your tour we tried to offer you a gift card to rebook your tour which you declined as if it were a hamburger with pickles and you didn't want pickles. So instead of accepting the gift card you decided it was in your best interest to lose your money and give us 1 star instead. That's a pretty pricy star but if that's what you want to spend your money on then who are we to deter you. To any guests reading this wondering if you should book the tour because we might leave you behind ... yes we will leave you behind if you are not on the bus by the departure time .. unless you let us know you will be running late. Even then we only allow a 10 minute window so if you call and say you will be 15 minutes late we will offer you a gift card because it's unfair to the others who did arrive on time and had to sit and wait on you. If the tour starts at 9:00 am then arrive at 8:45 am this is for any tour you book with any company. If you arrive at 9:01 am then just assume you will not get a refund and the tour will begin without you. We aren't just a business, our tours are designed to educate and carry on the knowledge of our mountain heritage thru our guests so we don't like it when anyone misses a tour. It should have been a great day for you seeing the area and learning all about it's history but instead it turned into a bad day. I'm so sorry that your day didn't go as planned. It would be great if we could rewind it and make it so you never missed your tour. I hope the rest of your vacation was wonderful and you come back to see the mountains again. If you do then just give us a shout and we will still take you on tour with us even though you gave us 1 star. I still find it unfair how you missing your tour means we deserve 1 star for upholding our no show no refunds policy that is listed in the confirmation email but that's the way the world works now I suppose. You mess us, we get the blame. No personal responsibility for not reading the email or checking the information well in advance even though you are in an unfamiliar area 9 hours from home. Yup, it was our fault that we didn't keep on waiting indefinitely not knowing if you were gonna show up at all.

TripAdvisor asked me to write a review on a tour that they cancelled on me the day before without notifying me before canceling. I would have liked to go on this tour, however, after talking to “customer service “ (which was not of any service) I was told all tours were booked and unavailable. She then told me she would keep in contact with me and that she emailed the tour company. Never heard from anyone. Very disappointed in both TripAdvisor, Viator and Tennessee Mountain Tours. I have been using two these companies for years. Not happy.

Even with the pouring rain, Dustin was,an amazing tour guide. He was considerate with his customers, entertaining with his information and great with his patience. I enjoyed the tales about his family and early life. Got great information on the start of the park. Loved it. Thanks.
