Historyczny park kolejowy i muzeum pociągów

The Historic RailPark & Train Museum isn't exactly the best train museum in the country & honestly from a size standpoint it's on the small size from a museum standpoint (although the model train display is huge). The rail cars which have been restored are the highlight of this place & the tour guide I had (Cory) was very good at what he did although being as the fact the trains were in the process of being decorated for Halloween did take away from some of the glamour of them. There are additional cars which hopefully will be restored & added to this at some point. Additionally, this museum appears to be in financial hardship due to fundraising signs in it which is a shame especially since this museum is an important part of the history not only of Bowling Green, but that part of South Central Kentucky.

Several years ago my wife and I were traveling through Bowling Green and pass the old train station. Since we've always loved old train stations we pulled in the parking lot to peek in the windows. Much to our surprise the gentleman who was working on restoring the old railroad station was in the building and invited us in and gave us a private tour and discussed his hopes for the old station. Last week we revisited the train station to see what he had accomplished. The results was fascinating. Not only had the building been lovingly restored but they had added a railroad History Museum that covers the impact of the railroads during the Civil War and told various stories about the porter's lives and other interesting facts. They have also restored several railroad cars that can be seen on a tour. The tour includes the engine, the mail car, a dining car, an economy class Pullman, and ends with a presidential or VIP car. The tour was very fascinating and definitely a must do when you visit. The information from the tour guide was fascinating and funny. It took about an hour and a half to tour the entire area. In addition they have an old MASH car from Korea and a caboose. The cost is very reasonable and a nice place to visit.

We appreciate your review! It's great to hear the perspective of someone who visited when the museum was just getting started to seeing what it's become today.
