Emissaries of Peace: 1762 Cherokee & British Delegations Travel with Henry Timberlake to the Cherokee world in 1762 and see London through the eyes of Cherokee leaders who met with King George III. Timberlake’s Memoirs come to life through artifacts, archaeological treasures, period artwork, music, video and life-sized figures. Two contrasting cultures emerge from war and make peace. Special pop-up books and graphic panels help tell the story for children. The museum also hosts many traveling exhibits such as We the People. The museum is very dimly lite making it hard to read the graphic and the time period plates denoting the eras, for example, The Woodland Era, etc. With the exception of the canoe, it seemed like all the artifacts were replicas with displays of current pottery made by the Cherokee. According to a plaque, the reason authentic artifacts are not shown is "for the health and well being" of the Cherokee. Lastly, don't bother going into the Gift Shop. All the items I saw were "Made in China", One would think that the Gift Shop would be selling crafts made by the Cherokee.

My two teens and myself absolutely cherish this place. While in the Gatlinburg area, we were headed home, but we are so glad that we turned around to visit. The actual museum was pretty underwhelming for so much history that is out there of the Cherokee nation. The staff there weren’t the friendliest either… But- We heard about the play “Unto These Hills” and will be returning to see that! The bears all around town are so appreciated!!!

This museum is undergoing renovations and a lot of it is closed.There are only 2 sections open for viewing,so there really isn't much to see.I think we were there for about half an hour and saw what was there.If in the area I'd make the stop but I wouldn't go out of my way.
