The trip was a nice mix of level 3 rapids (max=5) and quiet stretches. This trip was no problem for a beginner. No experience necessary, just listen carefully and row together with everyone. The guides were enthusiastic and patient instructors. We went on the 8 AM trip. The company provided a warm breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and coffee. Be prepared for a 30 minute bus ride to the site and afterwards, there is a one hour bus ride back. The early morning trip is the least expensive. Also, there is probably a higher likelihood of spotting animals/birds on the early morning trip.
Some folks also rented wet-suits, but the day was so sunny and warm that I didn't think they were necessary, as long as you weren't wearing cotton. It is a good idea to bring a complete change of clothes (including footwear) and a towel; otherwise, it is a damp, long ride back to the starting point.
If you want more waves, ask to be on a smaller boat. Larger boats don't pick up as much water. Although the trip is only about 1 hour, with the travel time, prepare for a 3 hour or 3.5 hour day.
