Designated by Congress as the official WWII museum of the United States, The National WWII Museum is located in downtown New Orleans on a six-acre campus, where five soaring pavilions house historical exhibits, on-site restoration work, a period dinner theater, and restaurants.

Beyond All Boundaries is a film depicting the battles of World War II. The film is shown in 4-D, and includes archive footage and special effects. Produced and narrated by Tom Hanks and is shown solely in The National World War II Museum, New Orleans.

Definitely pre-purchase your tickets and make sure to include the 4D show. We (2 parents + 2 young adult children) visited during Covid and felt we had the whole place to ourselves. It was wonderful.

Probably one of the best museums in the country. We broke up our visit into two days as to thoroughly enjoy all of the exhibits and not experience information overload. We used the online reservation system to purchase tickets and reserve viewing time for the Beyond All Boundaries movie. My husband is a veteran and there is a military discount. I would recommend seeing the movie during the earlier part of your visit to get a good historical introduction. We spent 4.5 hours the first day and about the same amount of time the 2nd day. The museum staff are extremely friendly and very knowledgable. The museum does have onsite restaurants but we walked 10 minutes down the block to have a fantastic lunch at Cochon Butchery. The museum is easily accessed by a nearby streetcar stop. We actually enjoyed walking down Magazine Street to the museum from our French Quarter hotel, less than a mile away.

This historical capsule is a fabulously dark preservation of the history of the war. There is a significant focus on the strategies of the various fronts. It is interactive and the facts have a way of remaining with you after the visit is over. There is a lot of terrain to cover. Wear comfortable shoes and designate a day or two to wander the exhibits. It is information overload. If you have smaller ones, it may be good to break the experience up over a number of visits.
