We were fortunate to be able to book this tour only 1 day in advance. We were unsure whether to book a tour or attempt to drive the road ourselves. Wow, we are so glad we decided to take the tour. Gardel (Dell) was our guide and expertly navigated the narrow winding road. Like several other reviewers have mentioned, Dell is a fantastic guide, sharing tons of fun facts and bad jokes the whole trip! We got to see all the highlights of the trip early before all the people arrived, which felt much more special because it was less crowded. In addition, instead of turning around in Hana and driving back the same way, Dell kept going and took us to several more spots on the backside of the island. If you book this tour, ask for Dell as your guide!

The drive along the road to Hana was a superlative experience. Its a long winding road, with lots of bridges and waterfalls and amazing vistas of the lush tropical volcanic forests with the shimmering blue sea in the background. Our driver and guide Kali made the journey more enjoyable with his interesting commentary and stories and deep knowledge about Hawaii's history and economy. He often stopped on the way to enable us to get good views of the waterfalls and scenes where hollywood movies were shot. We visited the black sands beach and had a dip in the ocean and stopped at a roadside store that sold delicious freshly baked banana cakes. In the little town of Hana we were treated to a packed lunch and on the way back we stopped at a waterfall where I was able to take a plunge from the top into the pool below. It was truly a memorable experience.

Our trip was great. Kaili was a very knowledgeable tour guide. He gave us really great insights of the island and answered any question we had. He also made the trip personable! Definitely recommend him for future tours!
