We had a great time seeing and hearing about this great battle. The park rangers have done great in showing and designating where both sides were and how the Union Soldiers tried to approach many different ways. Great story telling and loved how it just kept telling story without having to pay attention to app the whole time. Note that currently road is closed between locations 20 - 27.

After looking forward to our only day, a Monday, in Vicksburg to tour the battlefield, I purchased the self-guided tour a few weeks ahead. However when we arrived at the visitors center that morning, it was closed. We were not able to activate the tour. Very disappointed. Instead we used the free NPS app. I feel the tour option I paid for should have mentioned it was not available on Mondays.

Hi Andrea, Unfortunately, you couldn’t download and activate the tour. Once you book, you will receive detailed instructions via email and a tutorial video for easy setup. My tour is available daily and isn’t affected by visitor center hours since you can set it up and use it anytime. The good news is that your tour remains valid for a year, so you can revisit it whenever it’s convenient. If you need assistance, my support team is available from 5 AM to 5 PM EST to help with any setup issues. I also recommend checking the official site for any location updates to avoid last-minute closures. Let me know if I can assist further!
