Let me start by saying that this is a hidden gem and a lot of fun if you’re willing to exercise. You’ll be doing a total of about 7 miles of kayaking and hiking.
After a quick ride to the marina (Protip: this is the last real bathroom on the trip, so use it here if needed), you’ll grab a boat and head up river. A two mile trip later, you’ll land and start hiking. Be forewarned: if it has rained at all, wear shoes you don’t mind getting nasty dirty. We stepped in mudholes that our feet went in up to our calves. A river crossing later (Protip: there is usually a rope. Use it), you’ll head up a small hill and end at the Secret Falls. It’s a beautiful place to swim, eat a quick snack, and relax. If you swim, go behind the falls. There’s a magic trick behind it. It’s actually science, but it’s still cool.
The guide, Brian, is also very knowledgeable and personable. He knew stories and history that made the hike better and interesting while you’re dealing with the mud (Pro-tip: if you’re a Phish-head, talk to Brian about it. He uses lyrics as part of his guiding, and he will talk to you about his touring).
Overall:
Pros: awesome views
Great exercise
Fun guide
Beautiful waterfall
Cons: if you hate mud, there’s a lot of it
Waterfall pond is VERY cold to some
If you hate exercise, this isn’t for you
