Our guide, John, was very well informed, explained things in an easy to comprehend style, and very personable. This tour was a highlight of our time in Alexandria. The route was easy and the perfect length of time even on a warm day. We learned about 4 different enslaved people/families and who they were, how they most likely escaped, and what might have happened to them. It was important to hear their varied yet similar stories and honor their part and history in the city. John is from Alexandria and was well prepared and researched, as well is an invested community member (he said hello to many people along the route and is, I believe, a council member). We were the only family on the tour so it was very personal and informative and it is clear he cares about his city — and all parts of its history. We left knowing way more than “George Washington”, about Colonial Alexandria. It was also a really great value. I would wholeheartedly recommend this or any of this company’s tours.
