Guaranteed Sightings! 7 Seas Whale Watch is located in the heart of historic downtown Gloucester, MA and in one of the busiest parts of Gloucester harbor. As soon as you board the Privateer you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of Gloucester’s working waterfront. You may see fishing boats unloading fish, lobster men baiting and setting their traps, and perhaps even some of our indigenous wildlife such as Harbor seals, Gray seals, and various species of birds. The tour begins with a harbor tour of Gloucester Harbor starting with Cape Pond Ice (which most of you have seen on Wicked Tuna and ends at the Dog Bar Breakwater. A typical trip is anywhere from 3-4 hours but may be extended if the whales move further out for feed. The Privateer IV was built for 300 passengers but we only book to 150 to ensure the comfort and safety of our passengers and is equipped with restrooms, and on-board food Galley and bar.

We had a great time and the captain brought us further out to catch a nice pair of Humpback whales that put on a show! The photo doesnt do this tour justice!

We decided to go with 7 seas after reading other reviews and we were not disappointed. After around about an hour of sailing the crew spotted 2 female humpbacks feeding and we the proceeded to follow these for around 1.5 to 2 hours. I have to say this was more like watching an episode of blue planet as we got such a good views of the whales feeding. The crew kept an ongoing commentary telling you where to look as well as getting you involved in looking for the whales. All in all and excellent and educational way to spend the morning and I would have to say possibly the highlight of the holiday.

My husband and I had tickets for the 1:30 excursion on a Friday afternoon. Tickets were bought through a great Groupon deal and were easy to redeem. All of the crew were enthusiastic and the guides were especially informative and respectful to the wildlife that were being viewed in their natural habitat. The boat was not overly congested with tourists, as everyone appeared to have a seat. The crew explained some basic boat procedure so the tourists would know in which direction to look for spotted wildlife. The guides pointed out different species of whales and birds that we encountered. Our excursion was favored by a mama humpback and her baby. They entertained us for more than an hour going from one side of the boat to the other, breaching the water, flipping their flippers and showing their tails. I walk with a cane and have a handicap placard. Parking was free in a municipal lot located close to Seven Seas. I was uncomfortable moving on the boat when it was moving, but felt safe moving about when the boat was stationed to view the whales. There were two passengers in wheelchairs and another using a cane. Ramps were used to get on and off the boat, and the restroom was located on the main deck. It was a wonderful afternoon in Gloucester.
