This is just the type of adventure a family wants - cozy glamping, quite, peace, and fun with a little adventure thrown in for spice. We arrived with two other families and had a great time setting up our cabins which were close but not too close. We started our fires, set about making dinner, and enjoyed a silent night listening to the roaring of the river and crackling of the fire. We could see every star in the sky. The next morning after a slow start getting the water boiling (and me wishing I'd brought a Via instead of my french press and ground coffee) we explored nature. After lunch we went on the scariest white water rafting trip! I'd been white water rafting in Colorado. Even though I'd read that depending on the rains these rivers in Wisconsin could be class II, III or IV I really didn't believe it until I was sitting in my own personal kayak being tossed around like a rag doll. But FUN - we haven't worked so hard or laughed so much in a long time. I did worry about my 12 year old shooting ahead of us and I was so glad these rapids had a 10 and over rating so we left our 8 year old at home. At the end of the rapids us adults were all a little worse for wear but no one was seriously hurt. The next time we go back we want to try the lower class river with the bigger group rafts. Going down individually in a kayak required a lot of skill. We got trapped between rapids and rocks. There was a real danger of breaking a leg or arm trying to get out of the boat and un-stucking oneself. However, there were plenty of guides who did an excellent job of keeping tabs on the faster and slower, stronger and weaker members of the group. At the end they even let us have some fun riding rapids on our butts! That was the kid's favorite part! Overall I would do it again now that I have a clearer understanding what I'm getting into. The customer service and communication was top notch. There are other adventures to have a wildman but unfortunately rain and lightning storms precluded anything but driving home on Sunday. We did stop for some fabulous cheese curds, beer, and brats on the Wisconsin/Illinois border...
