Had an awesome time on the taste of Williamsburg Tour! I have lived in the area for over 8 years and I never knew there were such great places in the area! Had a variety of food items, was super informative, with a fun group of people. Amazing experience!

I have taken numerous food tours, so I was excited to see one in Colonial Williamsburg. Bad idea. For starters, this is a tour of the newer section (tourist traps and college bars) and not the Colonial portion. Setting that aside, it was still a disaster. Our guide started the tour off by saying that this was her first tour, and she'd never actually taken the tour before. She showed up the prior week to shadow a tour and instead was put in a promo video. She asked the company for information to share on the tour, and they gave her an itinerary of the places and foods sampled. So, she knew nothing about the area, the places visited, or the food sampled. She was a sweet college student clearly thrown to the wolves. We had paid additional for the WIlliam and Mary Campus Tour afterwards, but 1) she wasn't told that, and 2) she said all she knew was the route. So, we ended up cutting our losses and departing early to return to Colonial Williamsburg. Interestingly, she noted the company reportedly fired all of its old guides and hired all new, but again, provided no training. I'd also like to note that several of the "tastings" included were actually the free samples available in the shops. Of the ~6 places visited, the managers/owners only talked to us about the shop at 2 of them after we kind of insisted it and engaged them ourselves. We found ourselves educating the "guide" on how a food tour should really operate. In short, don't waste your time or money! Sadly, this is $100 and 3 hours of our lives we are never getting back...

This tour has so much potential. The tour guide Marc was wonderful and he was the reason that we stayed on the tour. We were a small group, and it didn't seem like the restaurants were expecting us. When we got there, there wasn't any interaction with the chefs or managers as would be expected. Only three of the stops were actual restaurants, the rest were food related stores where we had free samples. The same samples as someone off the street would get. The highlight of the tour for me was the stop at the Spice and Tea Exchange. The owner was wonderful and the selection of product great. We got a discount for being on the tour! Overall the tour was fun, but a bit costly for what was included.
