Alcatraz Island

You’ll board the ferry to Alcatraz at Pier 33 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Headsets are provided to listen to the award-winning audio tour, “Doing Time,” where you will learn about notorious criminals like Al Capone who were incarcerated here. Hear about escape attempts from 'The Rock,' and listen to commentary from former inmates and staff. This is the drop off. No transportation after Alcatraz because you will be able to stay as long as you want on the Island until the last ferry back.

The good thing was that it was a small group. The guide tour was more like a chauffeur. There was no tour whatsoever. One of the guys in the car asked him “are you going to say something about where we are?” And he said we are on mission district… ok can you tell us something about it? Nope. So basically there was no tour. We were dropped in Muir Woods first, “you have an hour go around”… then dropped at Sausalito… do whatever you want.. no info about it whatsoever… and then dropped at the pier and find out how would you return to you original pick yup place… I could have taking my car to everyplace too.

After investigation, I talked to you and other customers during the tour. All other customers told me they had a great tour and the guide was knowledgeable, nice and friendly. I am sorry that you had a different experience or tour. Also Mission district is not on our itinerary. Peace and love

The tour was nice and it was nice to not have to worry about transportation or reserving tickets. It would be possible to get to Muir Woods and Alcatraz without the tour and may be cheaper, but if you don’t want to worry about getting tickets and figuring out transportation in your own this tour would be a good option. I wish we had more time at Muir Woods. There were areas we did not have time to explore and we felt rushed to stay on track with the tour times. We will most likely to explore Muir Woods on our own instead of a tour if we come back. We ate at Scoma in Sausalito and I highly recommend it! We did need to put our order in quickly and ask for the check right away to stay on time with the tour and it would have been nice to spend more time there.

Dear customer, I am happy to hear that you liked the tour. Muir Woods is so beautiful that we would like to spend the whole day there. During the hour and 15 minutes that we give we think it is plenty of time to see the best of it. I think it is a great idea to come back for longer on your own. Scoma's is one of our recommendation for a sea foods lunch, so yummy! Sausalito is also very beautiful. But during this tour you can enjoy all of it and it was so good that you wanted to stay longer. Had a great tour, it was a small group which allowed us to meet and interact with everyone. We had ample time to wander and enjoy each place.
