Dec 2017
We took the day tour from Flagstaff north to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend on November 3, 2017. Nine of us were comfortable in a 12-person van for the longish trip. Jennifer Barnes (Jen) was our tour guide and she was so interesting that it made the 2-hour trip north just fly by. She was full of information about the Navajo reservation we traveled through and the residents current way of life, as well as information about the geography, history, and ecology of the area. We visited Horseshoe Bend first, and it was quite a hilly trek to get to it, but it was beautiful. Some of the younger people got quite close to the unfenced edge, even laying down in Superman poses, but we stayed back a ways. Next Jen took us to the Glen Canyon Dam visitor center, where we got a view of Lake Powell and had a nice sack lunch on the lawn there. Next we drove to the nearby slot canyon area, where we were turned over to a native guide who took us through Lower Antelope Canyon. I was afraid that the lighting down in the canyon would be poor since we it was November, but it was well lit (enough that we got gorgeous photos even on our point-and-shoot cameras.) The slot canyon was the highlight of our trip and we are so glad we went at this point in our lives--I am in my late 60s and a few of the tight squeezes and ladders with no handrails were a little bit of a challenge. The guide stopped to let us take photos at spots she knew would be especially pretty and once even took our cameras and took a picture for us at a particular angle that turned out to be quite nice. Once we climbed out of the canyon, we looked back at the unremarkable little crack in the earth and couldn't believe the beauty hidden below. Wonderful! Jen was a superb guide, as her experiences all over the world made her commentary so interesting.

So glad we took this opportunity to let Drew do the planning and navigating while we got to just enjoy not only the beauty of Arizona, but also on being together as a family for the day. Highly recommend this tour!
