I went to Alaska for a family trip so my Dad could fulfill his life long dream of seeing the Northern Lights. We booked this tour, as one of the possibilities, and were also very excited to go to the Arctic. 2 things on my bucket list! Knowing full well the Northern Lights can be elusive and seeing them is only a chance this review is not a complaint about not seeing or not seeing them it's a review of the tour itself. I want to start by saying the company was a pleasure to deal with on the phone when I confirmed the trip that I had booked and also was very prompt on calling back the couple times I had to call with questions from the group. They offered to pick us up at the house we were staying at in Fairbanks, which was nice so we didn't have to drive. They showed up on time and Dave our guide was really friendly and a bit funny as well. The tour is about 14 hours long and the van they pick you up in is very, uncomfortable. It is not a coach it is a passenger van so after about 3 to 4 hours it gets really uncomfortable. The seats are very narrow and the rows are close together so there is very little leg room. We did stop a few times but sometimes there was 3 to 4 hours without a stop so several in the party were really sore by the time we got to the Arctic. The tour was supposed to come with commentary but I never heard anything. I guess for the people in front he did speak with them but if there was a speaker system in the van it didn't work and anyone past the first row didn't hear anything. We were supposed to also stop at finger mountain but for some reason we didn't. The only stops we made were at the pipeline and two fueling stops. Once we crossed over into the Arctic we pulled into a gravel parking lot. Stopped in front of the Arctic sign and got out, snapped a couple of pics, fed some gray jays and took off. We where there just 15 minutes. I had to say I was a little underwhelmed. I thought there would be a visitors center, or at least a commentary about the Arctic but there was nothing but a gravel parking lot. We then headed back to Fairbanks. Normally I think they were supposed to stop and look for northern lights but it was overcast and cloudy so he stopped twice and then we just decided to call it and head back. We did get to see and owl and luckily we were staying in a rural part of Fairbanks so we happened to see a moose in our own driveway when we got home. They do feed you a lunch, and it wasn't bad. The only problem is they feed you while driving so eating in the cramped van isn't easy. I will say I am glad I went to the Arctic but I am not sure I would recommend it.

Dear Shannon, we are so sorry that this tour didn’t meet your expectations. Unfortunately, because of the length of the Arctic Circle tours, it is not the right fit for everyone. However, for almost all of our customers, crossing the Arctic Circle, seeing and feeling the real vastness of Alaska is one of the highlights of their Alaska vacation. In all of our descriptions of this tour it is never stated that the Arctic Circle has a visitor center. It is true that this tour is 14 hours long and that we are using Vans, which is stated in the description and we assured you during our phone call a day before your tour began. Our comfortable and very clean 12-seater vans are used for all of our tours, which left your group of 8 with enough spare room to feel even more comfortable. No complaints about the seating situation were made from your group during the tour. Furthermore, we offer seat rotations for all our customers multiple times during this tour. We make multiple stops for stretching your legs, viewing the area, and taking pictures if you wish to do so. Of course, our guides ask all customers if they would like to leave the van, but it is the customers choice to leave the van or stay seated. At the Arctic Circle, your guide gave you the opportunity to take as much time as needed, but the group decided to leave after roughly 15 minutes. On the way back, a stop was made at Finger Mountain and the guide gave you the opportunity to get out of the van and showed everyone a small video from his last tour about wildlife in this area. Unfortunately, only one person decided to get out and take advantage of a smoke break. We have upgraded our vans with the best communication system on the market and the guide asked the group, in the beginning of the tour, if the volume was good for everyone. After hearing that it was too quiet, he turned the volume up and the group told him that they were satisfied. Each of our guides are very experienced and watch every second for the Northern Lights and pull over when/if need be. However, we are glad that you were pleased with our excellent service. We are also happy that we were able to help you out with collecting you at your pickup address, so you did not have to drive all the way to the Walmart parking lot. We, at Alaska Wildlife Guide, are well known for our outstanding customer service and it is our goal to please our customers as best as we can.
