This experience was beyond of what I had expected. Me and my dad were picked-up by Dave at our Hotel right at the time he said he would, and we two just happened to be the only guests for the day. Dave told us he was pleased to spend the whole day talking to us. He drove us first to get snacks for the road and then to see the pipeline. I hadn't taken a ride with such a careful driver! and what an interesting person he is, he spent almost the 14-hour tour explaining eveyrthing we encountered from the way the firefighters keep the fires aways from small communities till how his dad used to take him and his brother to the wilderness of Alaska. He stopped every certain kms. so we could stretch our legs. We saw some moose along the way. And then when we reached the Artic Circle sign, it was a wonderful experience to find myself up there in the globe. Then Dave took us to a family restaurant where most of the travellers stop by. We ate a delicious salmon burger and bought a souvenir with the image of the Artic Circle. When I was planning my trip to Alaska I though about renting a car and doing this trip driving myself, but later on I learned that most insurance companies don't allow you to take the cars there and don't cover the Dalton Highway, then I understood why, the road is very bumpy so I HIGHLY recommend you, book with these guys, best choice you can take and just forget about everything else.

The van you take is kind of loud to begin with. The day started around 730 with a trip to a gas station/restaurant to order food for breakfast or anything you might want until dinner time around 430p. The first stop was a creek or something. Nothing but walking around in a cloud of mosquitos, no scenic views, just wondering why we're stopping... Next one was about the same but had a welcome to Dalton highway sign. I'd definitely recommend mosquito repellent at least for these spots. The day picked up with a stop at one of the access points of the pipeline. That was really cool to see it up close and personal. There was another scenic spot where you walk on the soft tundra ground by finger mountain. Last stop was the most disappointing at the Arctic Circle sign. It needs a coat of paint. The road is VERY rough going to the sign but I guess how can you not go once you're that far north? The road in general is very rough and the van is very loud and squeaky. When you first start out you're sure the doors or the passenger seat will just fly off. I think if I knew it'd be so rocky I wouldn't have gone since I'm pregnant.. Dinner stop is at a Yukon river camp. The portions are actually huge and the pie was good. You stop here on the way up and back, which is nice for bathroom breaks with actual plumbing. I think the trip could be a little shorter if some of the first couple stops were cut out. I think we would've liked to stop at the touristy pipeline stop as well as the access point as it was one of the coolest aspects of the tour. The tundra at finger mountain was my favorite stop and they even had wild blueberries. Our tour took about 14 hours beginning to end but it would be much longer if it rained or was icy!

This should be on your bucket list of things to do while in Alaska. Of all visitors in AK, only 1% visit Fairbanks and less than 1% go to the Artic Circle. We are now part of the few to experience this amazing part of AK and we used this tour group to get us there. I researched several groups and methods of getting there, van, plane etc. I decided on this tour mostly due to trip advisor reviews. I am not disappointed and found it to be a remarkable way to get to the Artic Circle and very educational for my son and I. Cassie was our guide and she was amazing. She has many personal experiences of AK life, that she shared with us. She was very knowledgeable about the history of AK, pipeline, seasons, Aurora, plants, etc. She was a wealth of information. I loved listening to her stories of life in a dry camp, how she makes skins, her bear stories, info about the locals, as well as info about the land, etc. The trip is a bit of a drive but their van is capable for the difficult roads, they have satellite phones, CB, water, for the trip. On the way we stopped at the pipeline, had breakfast and lunch at trucker diners, and met locals along the way, stopped at visitor cabins, plenty of bathroom stops, Yukon River, etc. My son and I learned so much from Cassie and loved that we had this experience with her. She made it more amazing than I could have imagined. Thanks Cassie and 1st Alaska tours for an experience that my son and I will remember forever.
